"The more, the merrier," isn't usually considered true by travellers. Although, in
certain circumstances, it CAN ring true! Well, that's the way it should be when
attempting to travel with the entire family. Regardless of what you may think,
it is possible to achieve a stress-free, fun filled holiday with your family.
And we mean that the entire family should come along, including the kids! Here
are a few tips to ensure that you'll be travelling easily and stress free, with
the entire family in tow.
Plan as a family - listen to each person's opinion about where to go. Kids enjoy
being involved in the planning process. Determine the goals of the majority,
through making a short list of places they want to see, and taking it to a vote.
Make sure that you have activities planned that everyone in the family will like.
Delegate jobs - assist each other, particularly when deciding what to bring on
the trip. Delegate a responsibility to each family member. Assign your children to
assemble the first aid kit, have your husband bring the bulky items, and that will
leave you free to prepare the food. In this manner, you won't have to carry as much
of a burden and everyone else can take pride in the fact that they're contributing.
Don't carry much - as most of the space in your car will be filled by people, bring
only the essentials. You may be able to rent strollers for the children so you don't
have to bring one along, taking up even more precious space. You should put items l
ike shampoo and mouthwash in small plastic containers. It is possible to travel
light and still have everything you need. You will want to carry everything that is
important, but in smaller quantities that take up less room and won't weigh you down.
Secure your home - you could make use of a hired house sitter. Or you can opt to
recruit a trustworthy neighbor to keep an eye on your house for you. Before leaving,
make sure to unplug any tall electrical appliances and securely lock all windows and
doors.
Safety first - always have a medicine kit ready, and in an easily accessible spot,
in case of emergencies. It should include the basics like: aspirin, laxatives, bug
repellent, bandages, ointments and alcohol. You should also keep an Epi-pen in this
kit if anyone in your family has severe allergies that could require it. If a family
member is on prescription medication, do not forget to bring enough for the entire
trip. Pack enough so that you won't run out in the middle of your trip, and then have
face the stress of trying to obtain a refill on the road.
Taking pictures can be fun for everyone – you can document your trip and add fun by
taking pictures and videos. Share the camera, so that everyone will have the
opportunity to get a shot taken for posterity. Capture your trip in photos; then place
them in a special travel journal once you're back at home. You can then remember
how much fun you had whenever you feel like it.
The main point of a family holiday is fun, after all. These tips should help you
have a family holiday
that will be viewed as an outstanding time in your lives,
which was great fun for all involved. You will make happy memories to carry with
you for a lifetime.
